A Must-Read Foundation Guide

There’s a lot to consider when buying a new foundation; texture, colour, formula and coverage. The options might seem overwhelming, but don’t worry, we've got you covered with our essential foundation guide.

FINDING THE RIGHT FOUNDATION FOR YOUR SKIN
Coverage and consistency needs differ according to skin type, so it’s crucial that you identify your skin type before you shop.

Oily Skin
Oily skin will benefit from a mattifying foundation that offers medium to full coverage. Control shine with a foundation that hydrates where needed, without encouraging oil production.

Dry Skin
Quench dry skin with a light coverage, hydrating foundation. Whip away flaky patches with a gentle exfoliator before applying a liquid foundation that’s rich in moisture.

Normal Skin
If you’re lucky to have “normal” skin”, the level of coverage you choose is up to you. Why not try a sheer foundation or a BB or CC cream? Apply a luminous serum underneath for a dewy complexion.

Ageing Skin
Heavy or powder-based products can settle into fine lines and worsen the appearance of wrinkles. Instead, if you’re aiming for a more youthful look, we recommend to try a light coverage foundation that is enriched with antioxidants.Tinted moisturisers are equally good.

3 Tips for flawless application (every time)

1. Always apply foundation to well-moisturised skin, and if your products don’t include SPF, layer on sunscreen under your foundation.

2. Apply foundation in one of three ways: If you apply with your fingers, dab or press foundation into your skin rather than rubbing it in. If you prefer to use a sponge, roll the colour into your skin to blend. Those using a brush should buff foundation on, in small circular strokes.

3. Start applying foundation around your nose area, as this is where most redness occurs. Leave the under-eye area bare (use lightweight products on this delicate skin), and always - always – blend well at your jawline.
